The Monsoon Collection

Tanya Coelho, the designer of Zefyr Eco Jewels, has just recently launched her much anticipated new Monsoon Collection. After great success from her first line I was particularly interested to see where Tanya's travels would take her and where the collection would go to next. For me it isn't just about the pieces itself its also about the whole packaging, even the name. The definition of the word Monsoon, "a seasonal prevailing wind in the region of South and South East Asia, blowing from the south-west between May and September and bringing rain, (the wet monsoon), or from the north east between October and April, (the dry monsoon). Having learnt how much of an impact a "monsoon" can have I had great expectations as to what the line would look like, especially as it was called one.

Tanya took inspiration from her time in Northern Laos, where she spent time with the Hmong Hill-tribe people. This inspiration led to the Monsoon Collection which even features the Lao symbol for "mountain" in every piece.

Here are some of the marketing pictures from the press release which I wanted to share with you to show that this collection lives up to its name "Monsoon" as it definitely doesn't disappoint.

I absolutely love the simplicity of the pieces, with the intricate pattern details so they just stand out enough for you to appreciate their beauty . 

  As I have recently got married, I'm now wearing gold jewellery to match my bridal set and my favourite pieces from the collection has to be the Bokeo bangle in gold with matching Bokeo necklace.

Little treasures from Zefyr

I decided after my recent post on Zefyr jewels, ( you can find the post here ), it was essential to have a piece in my ever growing jewellery collection. I decided on the Lolly necklace in gold with the blueberry stone as I loved the simplicity of the design and the colour.
And here she is....

The necklace came in a small recycled, cardboard box with soft blue tissue paper, which really set the stone off. The delicate chain is a perfect gold shade, that is long in length to be worn for any occasion. What I really love about the Zefyr collection is that a story enfolds behind every piece. No piece is ever made to follow a trend, but simply to be worn with love.

 Tanya Coelho, the lady behind the jewels, describes this piece as,

          "I used to live in the medieval district of Edinburgh and just down the road from my
           place there was an old fashioned sweet shop with lolly jars in the windows. As I
           was walking past one day, a shaft of sunlight hit the jars and lit up their sweet
           deliciousness. This playful collection sprang from that moment!"


Much to my surprise there was a second box within the package with a note from Tanya herself, as a thank you for my post she sent me a beautiful gift.

This dainty piece has gotten so many compliments I love it!

ZEFYR...Not just an idea a destination.

Don't you just love when you find special pieces of jewellery and then delve into the companies history and find it to be the start of something very exciting to come.

    Whilst uploading my many selfies of the day, I was searching the popular pictures on instagram when I first came across Zefyr Jewels. What immediately caught my eye was how beautiful and eye catching their pieces were, which made me instantly want to know more so I followed to find out about this amazing new company. I got in contact by simply messaging them to see if they had any literature on their fabulous pieces and they sent me over a pack detailing all about the idea from the designer and how she started!

Tanya Coelho came from a very talented family of craftspeople so knew from early on that she would be working with her hands being creative! And that she did. Tanya trained at the Enmore Design Center in Sydney and fell in love with jewellery and metal smithing, but not just that, Tanya was very fortunate being able to travel and took from her travels inspiration to create her own beautiful collections. Tanya describes this time as, "living in the romantic city of Edinburgh for a few years, I had the good fortune to share a massive arts space with lots of other artists and designers. During my time in this creative melting pot, I distilled the inspiration i'd received in Europe and Africa and forged my aesthetic style".


However, for Tanya it wasn't just about creating a beautiful collection, it was about being as eco-friendly as possible. From selecting the correct metals to recycling to even taking a bus or cycling to work instead of driving. They also became a member of The Carbon Reduction Institute and aim to be carbon neutral by the end of 2014.


Enough about the history, now let me show you the beauty of these fabulous pieces.....

For me this collection has so many statement pieces that can really change not just the way an outfit looks but also how you will feel when wearing a piece. I love the colour of the gold and depending on how you wear jewellery you could opt for one piece for a classic look or layer the jewellery up for a more boho trendy style. What I also like is the fact the designer has really designed her collections for all women in mind, so whether you are a city worker with a suit or a woman working in retail there is something for everyone.
